The #Battery Race in the US and How #Lithium Plays a Leading Role; (TSXV: $SLL.V) (OTCQB: $STLHF) (NASDAQ: $MXWL) (NASDAQ: $TSLA) (NYSE: $ALB)

Point Roberts, WA and Delta, BC - February 6, 2019 (Investorideas.com Newswire) Investorideas.com, one of the first global investor news source covering renewable energy with its Renewableenergystocks.com content, looks at the race for the best batteries as sustainability becomes a mandate and how lithium will play a leading role.
On Monday, February 4th, investors were charged up as Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL), a developer and manufacturer of energy solutions announced it has entered into an agreement to be acquired at $4.75 per share by electric car company, Tesla, Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA). The stock traded over 18 Million shares and was up over 49 % for the day.
"We are very excited with today's announcement that Tesla has agreed to acquire Maxwell. Tesla is a well-respected and world-class innovator that shares a common goal of building a more sustainable future," said Dr. Franz Fink, President and Chief Executive Officer of Maxwell. "We believe this transaction is in the best interests of Maxwell stockholders and offers investors the opportunity to participate in Tesla's mission of accelerating the advent of sustainable transport and energy."
Paramount to the future of the evolution of the auto industry is lithium. According to a report from Edinburgh Partners, "demand is expected to increase by a factor of 3-4 times by 2025 with the vast majority of the growth driven by pure Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)."
Standard Lithium (TSXV:SLL) (OTCQB:STLHF) is well positioned as a strategic US source of battery quality lithium materials and is currently focused on the immediate development of its flagship, 180,000 acre Smackover Lithium project located in southern Arkansas.
Standard Lithium just reported a combined Arkansas lithium brine resource of 3,888,000 tonnes LCE. Robert Mintak, CEO said, "This combined project in Southern Arkansas positions us as the largest lithium brine resource in the US; a significantly expanding market that currently relies on imports of foreign lithium."
The Company announced January 9th that it produced its first quantity of battery quality (>99.56% purity) lithium carbonate due to its AI-powered continuous crystallization technology. Its breakthrough rapid lithium extraction process reduces the recovery time of extracting lithium from brine from the current industry method that takes years, to as little as a few hours.
Standard Lithium's recovery time may give them an edge on even some of the leaders, like Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB), based in Charlotte, NC. Albemarle says in its presentation, "Obtaining capabilities to bring lithium from mine to market takes time."
How important is lithium to the US economy? Just recently, Energy Secretary Rick Perry launched a recycling initiative to recover the critical elements in lithium-ion batteries, calling it 'a matter of national security.'
"We aim to reduce our dependence on foreign sources of this material by encouraging entrepreneurs to capture up to 90 percent of America's lithium-based battery technology," Perry said.
They also note, "The lithium industry is still maturing from a technical and commercial perspective and does not behave like a commodity industry."
Examples of advanced lithium materials from Albemarle include: patented lithium-based materials to enable long cycle life; Li2S - a key ingredient in next frontier solid separators; and lithium metal foils for next frontier anodes.
Albemarle says it is their goal to provide material to this industry to support and increase the success of lithium-ion technology, not only in mobile communication and power tool (PWT) applications, but also in electric mobility.
Looking to the future, Albemarle also states, "the next generation of lithium batteries is on the horizon already."
And the next generation of investors is betting on this sustainable technology. According to TD Ameritrade, looking at trading purchases over the last few months, Millennials bought Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA), while the total population did not.
So the race is on; Simon Moores of Benchmark Minerals Tweeted, "We are in the midst of a global battery arms race in which the US is a bystander. Since my last testimony only 14 months ago we have gone from 17 to 70 lithium ion battery megafactories in the pipeline."
Companies like Standard Lithium (TSXV: SLL) (OTCQB: STLHF) are ready for the challenge to meet the demands of the future and keep the US in the race.
For investors covering the sector, Investor Ideas has created a directory of cleantech and renewable energy stocks including a lithium stock directory.

Advanced Technology for Rapid Extraction Will Be Key to Meeting Future #Lithium Demand; (TSXV: $SLL.V) (OTC: $STLHF) (NYSE: $ALB) (NYSE: $LTHM) (TSX: $NMX.TO) (OTC: $NMKEF)

Point Roberts, WA and Delta, BC - February 1, 2019 (Investorideas.com Newswire) Investorideas.com, a leading investor news resource covering AI and lithium stocks issues a snapshot looking at lithium companies preparing to meet future demands in the market and how technology innovation may play a lead role.
The future of lithium shows a high demand, though there is uncertainty surrounding whether the market will be able to keep up with extraction demands.
Looking at how this all plays out, Albemarle Corporation (NYSE:ALB) and Chile state development agency Corfo recently reached a deal to resolve a contract dispute centered around an amendment to the contract that requires Albemarle to provide as much as 25 percent of its annual production of lithium at a discount to companies seeking to produce battery metals within Chile.
Albemarle operates in Chile's Salar de Atacama, a salt flat in the country´s northern desert that supplies nearly 40 percent of the world´s lithium. Corfo, which leases mining rights in the Salar, had previously threatened to cancel its contract with Albemarle over the dispute, raising the spectre of potential supply disruptions amid booming demand.
The contract amendment that requires Albemarle to provide the ultralight battery metal at a reduced price is meant to spur a value-added lithium industry in Chile.
Albemarle produces most of its lithium from evaporation ponds. In November of 2018, the company's claim to developing a unique process to more than triple its lithium production from Chile's Atacama desert without using more water drew heavy scrutiny. Inside the US, Albemarle has already hinted at the potential of producing lithium to business owners operating near their Magnolia Arkansas operations, which is located nearby to Standard Lithium's potential commercial lithium project.
Conflicting reports regarding Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway's recent alleged interest in new US-based lithium extraction technologies has shone a spotlight on a rising need for innovation. Beyond Buffett's group, there has already been a push from the lithium sector to innovate. Despite lingering doubts about the feasibility of the Berkshire Hathaway project to produce lithium from California geothermal wells, other projects are priming for lithium production from US brines.
Understanding the need to innovate is Standard Lithium (TSX.V:SLL) (OTC:STLHF). Based in Southern Arkansas, with a planned joint venture involving a multi-billion-dollar global specialty chemical company, they are using innovative proprietary AI-powered rapid extraction technologies. This new high-tech approach may improve chances for success in this sector.
As international interests such as Germany and China jostle for position in other places like South America, securing North American lithium deposits is highly sought after domestically. The economic impact could be massive, as Chilean exports alone rose to $949 million in 2018.
Through its German partners, global chemical giant LANXESS and Standard Lithium have secured access to billions of gallons of lithium-rich brine; produced annually as a by-product of one of the world's largest bromine producers every year at their flagship project in Southern Arkansas.
Standard Lithium Ltd. (TSX.V:SLL) (OTC:STLHF) has the infrastructure and investment potential in place to move forward on a massive operating commercial brine-fueled lithium project in the USA. Should the next stages of the pilot and commercial feasibility testing be a success, LANXESS has announced a financial commitment to push the project into production.
Livent Corporation (NYSE:LTHM), focused on South America as well as Australia, calls itself "a world leader in lithium technology" The company also holds 50 product patents.
They also state, "Our control over the entire lithium operations chain-from pumping brine out of the ground to processing it into a range of performance products-enables us to lead the industry in lithium technology."
When discussing the lithium market in an interview, CEO Paul Graves said, "We think demand is going to grow almost five times larger in 2025 than it was in 2017. Our biggest challenge is producing enough to meet the demand - there's a much greater risk that this market is consistently in a deficit in the near future."
Other companies like Nemaska Lithium Inc. (TSX:NMX) (OTC:NMKEF), forecasted to be North America's next big lithium producer, is in the construction stage on its Whabouchi mine in the James Bay region of Quebec, Canada. According to the company's feasibility study, the capex on the project is set at approximately $875 million, of which Nemaska has already spent $272.4 million.
Nemaska Lithium has developed proprietary processes that use electrolysis to produce high-purity lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate for the lithium battery market. The technology virtually eliminates costly soda ash from the process.
The race to innovate in the lithium sector is on. According to Transparency Market Research, "Key players are focused on the innovation of new technologies in order to gain market share and serve a diverse range of end-user industries."

#Solar Energy and its future in the #Cannabis Market; Aurora Cannabis (TSX: $ACB.TO), (NYSE:$ACB), Solar Integrated Roofing (OTC: $SIRC), Canadian Solar (NASDAQ: $CSIQ), Aphria (TSX: $APH.TO), (OTC: $APHQF)

New York and Delta, BC - October 25, 2018 (Investorideas.com Newswire) Investorideas.com, a global news source covering leading sectors including both cannabis and solar stocks issues a snapshot looking at how solar energy has and will play a key role in the future of the cannabis sector. Companies mentioned: Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX: ACB.TO) (NYSE: ACB), Solar Integrated Roofing Corporation (OTC: SIRC), Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ), Aphria (TSX: APH.TO ), (OTC: APHQF) and Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc. ( TSXV: EMH.V), (OTCQX:EMHTF).
With recreational cannabis now federally legal in Canada and the supply in high demand, (not to mention the 30 US States where cannabis is legal, albeit at different levels), the question of power and supply are becoming a larger part of the conversation.
An article in SolarPowerworld.com sums up the relationship with solar and cannabis best, "Solar and marijuana are ubiquitous. The early, prohibited cannabis industry used solar panels to offset its electric load so the government wouldn't be able to pinpoint high utility bills to illegal grow operations. But the scale of legal cannabis grows today is a bigger energy concern than the few hidden plants of yesterday."
As reported by cannabis intel firm New Frontier Group, cannabis growers use a massive amount of electricity. "We're talking enough to power 1.7 million homes. This is actually about 1% of the entire energy consumption of the United States. And it's only going to increase as the industry continues to grow."
California holds the largest market share in the U.S. solar panel market and it comes as no surprise California has also become one of the largest cannabis sectors in the US to date.
But can solar meet the demands of this freight-train industry?
Solar Integrated Roofing Corporation (OTC: SIRC) is looking to rise to the challenge. Solar Integrated Roofing Corporation CEO, Dave Massey, in recent news said "electricity consumption by the growing cannabis industry represents an opportunity that is hard to overlook. Grow facilities often operate 24/7 using high intensity lighting, special ventilation and air conditioning systems. It was estimated that in 2016 a 5,000 square foot grow facility utilized 41,808 kilowatt-hours per month compared to an average household use of about 630 kilowatt-hours per month. The electrical cost was estimated to be approximately $2,500 per kilogram of cannabis leaf."
From the news – "Recreational marijuana's recent legalization in California gives (OTC: SIRC) an excellent opportunity to explore a new market for our custom designed solar roofing. If the California market proves to be successful, SIRC would consider expansion into other states as the legal environment changes."
"The CBD extraction industry offers another avenue for expansion. Extraction facilities are also high kilowatt-hour users. Mid-range CBD extraction equipment uses almost 10,000 kilowatt-hours per month, with HVAC and other electrical uses (OTC: SIRC) estimates total use in the range of 15,000 kilowatt-hours per month. A well-designed solar roofing installation can lower production costs for the CBD extraction industry."
Looking at well- known solar stock, Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ), an article entitled  Canadian Solar Stock: Weed Could Power Up This Solar Play - said "Companies like Canadian Solar Inc. ( NASDAQ: CSIQcan easily build the required power capacity. The company is working on several big commercial power projects, so the thought of powering a million-square-foot grow-op doesn't seem that unreasonable."
"Canadian Solar could be ripe for the challenge and provide another revenue source for its solar solutions. The company has operations in 20 countries and customers in over 90 countries."
As of December 2017, legal cannabis growers were spending roughly $6 billion on electricity, and this is before legalization in Canada or some of the medical regulation changes in Europe and the UK.
As the Cannabis industry has progressed state by state, and it seems soon now country by country, companies like the Resource Innovation Institute are seeking to provide aide to the industry through publishing best practice studies for the cannabis industry.
In one such guide from Denver Environmental Health, they listed three primary reasons why cultivators should look to reduce energy profiles: Economic Competitiveness, Community Relations and Environmental Impact.
Obviously much has changed scale and impact-wise since 2016 when the industry was still nascent but with companies creating massive grow facilities, the energy concern has never been more prominent.
Companies like Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX: ACB.TO) (NYSE: ACB), which earlier this year announced its acquisition of approximately 71 acres of land in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where the Company intends shortly to commence construction on a new high-technology hybrid greenhouse cannabis production facility. To this end, the Company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the City of Medicine Hat, concerning terms and a general understanding of potential transactions, including a prospective 10-year, 42 MW energy supply agreement.
The new facility, to be designed and engineered by the Company's wholly owned Aurora Larssen Projects Inc. division, will be named "Aurora Sun" in recognition of Medicine Hat's status as the sunniest city in Canada, with more than 2,500 hours of sunshine per year. At 1,200,000 square feet, or over 21 football fields, the footprint of Aurora Sun will be 50% larger than Aurora's Sky, a 100,000+ kg per year Health Canada licensed facility the Company is completing at Edmonton International Airport.
As facilities of this size become more the norm then the exception, companies like Solar Integrated Roofing Corporation (OTC: SIRC) and Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) may soon have their "day in the sun".
Energy efficiency and the power of the sun is not new information to one of the leaders in the Canadian cannabis sector, Aphria (TSX: APH.TO ), (OTC: APHQF), a Health Canada Licensed Producer of medical cannabis products. According to an article in insiderFinancial.com- "The firm is reputed to be one of Canada's most cost-efficient producers which engage in the production, supply and sale of medical cannabis. The firm truly deploys solar energy."
The company's website states – "Aphria is truly 'powered by sunlight', allowing for the most natural growing conditions available to produce safe medical cannabis products."
Earlier this year, Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc. (TSXV: EMH.V)  and Village Farms International, Inc. (TSX: VFF) announced their 50/50 joint venture for large-scale, low-cost, high-quality cannabis production, Pure Sunfarms.
"Pure Sunfarms initiated commercial-scale cannabis production in May of this year and is currently utilizing 225,000 square feet of its 1.1-million square foot Delta 3 greenhouse facility in Delta, BC, with the expectation that the full 1.1 million square feet will be converted for cannabis production by the end of 2018, on schedule and on budget. Upon completion of the conversion, Pure Sunfarms' Delta 3 facility will be one of the single largest cannabis growing facilities in the world."
The technologically-advanced Delta 3 greenhouse design is based on decades of large-scale, low-cost agricultural production experience and extensive cannabis expertise, resulting in a state-of-the-art facility with 17 grow rooms optimized for year-round harvesting (more than 85 harvests annually) and an automated process line encompassing harvesting, trimming, drying and packaging. The greenhouse is designed to cultivate more than 200,000 cannabis plants concurrently.
Commercial production of such scale requires a massive energy supply and though not massively adopted on the market as of yet, the future could look very "Green" for an already growing solar industry.
According to research from Hexa Research, "The U.S. solar panel market size is expected to reach USD 22.90 billion by 2025 as a result of increasing demand from consumers owing to decreased installation cost of solar panel systems. Increasing environmental awareness among customers is driving the adoption of cost-efficient renewable forms of energy over conventional energy sources. The year 2016 witnessed a significant growth in number of installations of solar panels in U.S. For instance, more than 11.8 GW of solar panels were installed in U.S. in 2016."
